About ten years ago I started the project that resulted in the massive series of art featured in the “Art as Narrative” section of this site. All of my art tells stories, but what I envisioned for this series was a full length novel sized story. My sister Kay and I wrote stories together when we were young and I was so very happy that she agreed to help me write this book to accompany my art series. The story features a young woman, Florence Farnsworth, who is born at the turn of the last century in Cornwall, England. Flo has her entire life figured out when an accident happens that propels her on a journey that takes her all over the world. I created an art piece representing each location that Flo visits, containing objects that tell the story of her adventures in each place. I see Flo as an exaggerated version of what we all encounter on our life’s journeys, as our plans so often bear little resemblance to the realities of our lives.
After ten years of work on both the book and the art, the book is now available for purchase on Amazon. It features photographs of the entire series, along with details of the objects used in the art and the entire story of the highly improbable adventures of Flo.
